LOD Forge — Automatic LOD Chain Generator

LOD chains are pure busywork: duplicate the mesh, rename it to the exact convention the engine expects, add a Decimate modifier, pick a ratio, check the triangle count, repeat four more times — and then repeat all of that for every asset in the set. Get one name wrong and the engine's automatic LOD import silently fails. LOD Forge generates the whole chain in one click. Pick an object (or build a list from your selection in multi mode), choose how many LOD levels you want (up to 6), and hit Generate. The tool duplicates your mesh per level, names everything to the standard convention — Rock_LOD0, Rock_LOD1, Rock_LOD2 — and applies a Decimate modifier with sensible game-ready ratios: 60%, 40%, 25%, 10%, 5%, 2%. Want different targets? Switch off auto mode and dial in each level's ratio yourself, with optional triangulation for engines that want it. Everything is built to be safe and re-runnable. Your original mesh is copied into a hidden backup collection before anything is touched. The LODs use live Decimate modifiers, so nothing is destructively collapsed — you can tweak any level afterward. Re-run the tool with new settings and it cleanly removes the old chain and builds a fresh one instead of piling up duplicates. After generation you get an LOD summary right in the panel: each level's true triangle count — measured on the fully evaluated mesh, so Subdivision, Bevel, and every other modifier is included — plus the reduction percentage against LOD0. Each LOD level is also color-coded in the viewport (white, green, yellow, orange...) so you can tell at a glance which version you're looking at. Batch mode processes your whole list with a progress bar. The _LODn naming matches what Unreal's FBX LOD import expects, and it's exactly the convention Asset Lens (also in the bundle) validates — so missing or misnamed levels get caught before export, not after. USE CASE: An environment artist needs LOD0–LOD3 for 25 rocks and plants. Multi mode, add selected, set 3 LODs, Generate. A minute later: 100 correctly named, color-coded, non-destructively decimated meshes with a triangle report. COMPATIBILITY: Blender 4.0+. Found in View3D sidebar > LOD Forge.
